1972 Porsche 914Disassembly - Part 11 - Dashboard3/8/2007Ok, so I started to remove the dash. I generally used the process as described on 914world.com in this thread... http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=42757 I had initially thought that I would remove the gauge cluster screws just enough to get at some of the steering column and leave the cluster connected. But I eventually found out that it really is much easier (and maybe required) to remove the entire cluster so you can get some some of the bolts that hold the dash in place. I took notes, but I apparently have already lost them. In general the process is...
3/13/2007This is the point that I realized that I really needed to remove the gauge cluster if I wanted to move forward. Most everything just unplugs, but some of the lights just had bulbs that slip out of the gauge. It is going to be crazy trying to get this back together again. I am just going to hope that the photos below and wiring diagram is going to save the day. 3/17/2007Dash is off. Photos below are mostly just to document how various items are connected. Notice the number written in grease pencil. I had always heard that this matched the Karmann body number (not the serial number). Mine didn't and since then I have heard that they don't in fact always match. |
