1972 Porsche 914Disassembly - Part 25 - VIN, Front Trunk and Karosserie Plates7/14/2007Because the body will be media blasted, ideally some special stickers and plates would need to be removed to prevent permanent damage from being done. Front trunk plate. Note aluminum rivets. Back side of front trunk plate rivits. VIN plate. Note style of rivets. DOT sticker. Official replacements don't look like the original versions. It is really hard to see, but you can see the Karmann body number stamped in the passenger side of trunk. This is the same number that appears on the Karosserie plate.
8/12/2007Removal of the Karmann Karosserie plate shows more original Irish Green underneight. What many think are rivets are actually small spiral shank nails/spikes that hold the Karmann plate in place.
8/25/2007There are a number of clip on speed nuts that hold various stuff in place. I didn't photograph one that is near the front of the center tunnel. There is also the four oval asphalt patches that cover holes in the longitudinals. They seem to have been heated and pressed into place. Or maybe glued. |
