Repair and Restoration - Part 7 - Rear Trunk

10/25/2007

As part of trying to remove as much of the seam sealant as possible via the knotted wire brush on one of my angle grinders, I worked on the trunk.  There is a lot around the shock towers.  It is especially deep in the crevice near the engine.  The wire brush can't reach that deep and I have used a torch to heat the metal which slightly melts the sealant so you can scrape it out.

I also removed the large access plate.  I have not yet tackled the rear trunk replacement.  I may start on that once I have the passenger side longitudinal and hell hole area done.

Large access hole.

Passenger side minus a lot of sealant.

Driver side.

Under the shock tower.  There is still sealant inside the tower.  I can't reach this with the grinder.  I may have to use heat to remove it.
