Richard's 1972 Porsche 914 Blog2006 Archive10/27/2006 - 10/29/2006Returned to WV to remove some parts from my second 914 (The 74 2.0L that has rusted beyond hope). Pulled the side shift transmission, linkage, two Targa tops, rear suspension (mostly to get the CV joints), the engine, Dellorto carbs and various bits and pieces. It was a mess. Three days in 2-4 inches of mud. If I had more time I would pull more parts off, but at this point, I believe the rest is going to be hauled off for scrap. 10/17/2006Removed the headlight motors and headlights. 10/15/2006Removed the master cylinder, front brake lines and front suspension. 9/22/2006Removed the Targa seal around the windshield. 9/6/2006Engine and transmission is out of the car. Rear suspension has been removed. Funny thing. I was working on removing the engine and transmission out of the car and heard a "bang". I thought it was something I had laying on the engine that fell. I looked around and couldn't figure out what it was. So I kept on going. Later I looked and saw that the rear glass had decided to jump out. I hadn't realized that there was pretty much nothing holding it in other than the bathroom silicon caulk that the PO had used to seal it. Miraculously it didn't break!!! It fell straight out and onto a roll of paper towels. Photo of exactly where it landed. 8/23/2006Ok, time for the obligatory photos of the kids in the front. Hopefully they are not going to be of driving age while I am still working on the car. 8/21/2006Ok, it has been over a year and the engine is still not out. The garage is pretty much finished (at least the work I intended to get done) and I am focusing 100% on the car. Notice the nice posters and the clean garage? 6/24/2006Ok, so it has been nearly a year with no real progress on the car. That is quite depressing. However, I have been focusing my efforts on remodeling the garage so that I can have a place to work on the car. That is nearly done so I am able to start working on the car. At this point the car has been on jack stands for a few weeks (I think). :) Let the counter start. How long until the car is drivable. You may notice that the floor is done, working outlets put in, walls have been painted, shelves up and I am starting to put stuff up on the shelves. |
